Jack Greish and Bernardo Silva scored in the second half but Liverpool held on to win 3-2.
Liverpool took the lead after just nine minutes.
Andy Robertson swung in a corner and Ibrahima Konate took over to head home, scoring his third goal in just three games in the process.
There were mismatches all over the inside of the box.
Konaté easily passed Gabriel Jesus before sinking his header into the back of the net.
Virgil van Dijkmeanwhile, was marked by Grealish.
Grealish, at just five-foot-9, is considerably shorter than the Liverpool defender.
